What Is Yoga?
Yoga...For Your Health...For Your
Self™
Yoga is a philosophy
and science of life that developed in ancient India. The word "yoga" literally
means yoke or union. The study and practice of yoga unifies the
body, mind, and spirit
and incorporates the flow of the life force, or "prana." The
student of yoga develops a sense of integration and balance through
the practice of postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama),
and other techniques including meditation.
According to Yoga, we suffer because we live in ignorance of
our True Nature. Deep within the mind, our true Self is experienced
as undying vastness and creativity.
"Animating everything in creation, this is the source and
goal of all life.
The nature of life is to grow toward an ever more perfect and
joyous expression of itself. Each living being has a nervous
system………that acts as a localized reflector
of all-pervading consciousness just as a mirror reflects light.
The more developed the nervous system, the more it will express
the qualities of pure consciousness – intelligence, creativity
and bliss. Yoga is the transformation into this Divine."
